The Beginning.

When we first got here in the Summer of 2023 we felt a bit overwhelmed by the amount of land and grass that we would have to convert into a food forest and annual gardens. However, we got to work by planting and nursing seedlings at our rental property and then converting lawn into cottage herb gardens by laying down cardboard (convenient boxes from our move) and mulching over top.

We also installed a solar digester to compost meat and feed roses and discovered a mature asparagus patch. We utilized low tech solutions such as line drying our clothes and plotting out survival gardens and learned we had a few friends who were more than happy to gobble up our gardens.

Everything has been a lot of work but this beginning was assessing and observing the land and putting in some survival food!
